***Guidance Department***
Welcome to the Guidance Department!
The goal of the guidance department is to help foster the growth and personal development of each student at St. Monica's Catholic High School. We encourage our students to be well-rounded young adults who create and maintain a balanced lifestyle. Each student is assigned a counselor who will follow his/her progress from freshman through senior year. Generally, students are scheduled to meet with their counselors once each semester, but students may also make an appointment with his/her counselor at any time. Parents are also encouraged to contact their son’s/daughter's counselor should the need arise. The counselors serve the needs of the students in the areas of academic, career, college, and personal counseling. To provide these services, counselors help students identify long term goals and objectives (e.g., college and career counseling). First, we advise students with planning their academic, extra-curricular, and sports schedules at St. Monica. Second, we counsel students who aim to attend four-year universities, community colleges, vocational training programs, or the military. Third, we provide guidance for developing student interests and recognizing future career options. Lastly, we assist students in meeting the challenges of academic and teenage life and help them develop coping skills.

College on-campus visits:
Students grades 10-12 will each get 3 passes per year to visit with an on-campus college representative of their choice (depending on which universities visits SMCHS). Student must set up an appointment with their counselor to use those passes and counselors will notify the teachers, which will be noted as an excused absence. As a college prep high school, we feel it is very important for our students to get more prepared and focused with their college search, and we want them to be able to speak to and visit with the college representative of their choice.
