Volunteer Opportunities

As a community, we rely on our families to support the school by participating in the life of the school.  Each family must complete a minimum of 25 hours of volunteer service in areas requested by the school.  In lieu of physical service, a family may receive credit for up to 5 hours for requested donated goods.  A receipt must be submitted in order for the staff member to credit the appropriate hours.  Any goods donated beyond the maximum allotted (5), will not be credited by the Finance Office for completion of Parent Volunteer Hours.  No single event may account for more than half of each family’s annual commitment.  Any hours not completed or documented by April will appear as a charge to the student account at a rate of $15 per unfulfilled hour.

Current Parent Volunteer Opportunities (updated 8/16/2010)  

We need phone coverage for the Fall Semester between 7:45am to 1:00pm Monday through Friday. If you can work all or part of this schedule, please call 310 394.3701 and ask for Mrs. Joann Hughes (310) 394-3701 x1411 or jhughes@stmonicahs.net. Get a jump on earning your volunteer hours for the 2010-2011 school year. 

We are currently seeking the following for the upcoming Welcome Dance: Bottled Waters, liters of Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Rootbeer, Dr. Pepper, small bags of assorted chips and small bags of pretzels. If you would like to donate,  please contact Mr. Blake Mayer at (310) 394-3701 x1442 or bmayer@stmonicahs.net.  Please contact us by Wednesday, September 8th to accommodate all donations and award the appropriate amount of service hours. All donations of food equal to $10 will receive 1 hour of SMCHS parent service hours.

Donations of healthy snacks and drinks for the ROCK tutoring program are always needed!  Please drop off donations in the main office and make sure to leave a copy of your receipt!  Parents earn 1 volunteer hour for every $15 spent (5 hour/$75 maximum).  Please call or e-mail Mrs. Rice for more information: (310) 394-3701x 1444 or mrice@stmonicahs.net.

LIBRARY:  Parent volunteers are invited to assist in the library any weekday.  Our greatest need  is before school (from 7:30 am. until 8:15/8:30 am) and at lunchtime (12:30-1:30 pm).  This is a great way for you to get a taste of what your child's schoolday is like.  To schedule time, please contact Mrs. Dinsmore at (310) 394-3701 x 1432 or by email at  library@stmonicahs.net 

Morning and After School Drop-off and Pick Up Help
When: Before School -- Monday - Thursday, 7:40am to 8:20am (Friday 7:40am to 9:05am)
After School: Monday - Friday, 2:40pm to 3:15pm
Duties:  Assisting students into and out of cars, ensuring pedestrians and drivers move safely through the drop-off/pick-up area, and offering warm welcomes and goodbyes to everyone youmeet. You will be standing outside for this assignment. Dress, footwear, umbrellas or anything else needed to do this job is highly suggested.

 

Locker Fix-Up

When: Please arrange times with Mr. Nuno
How many: 2 to 3 people who are willing to work well together.
Hours: 6+ parent service hours
Dutes: Screwing together and tightening loose pieces on lockers, painting touch ups, fixing dents and bends that make it difficult to open and close certain lockers, and helping to obtain screws and other materials to fix the lockers.

 

Welcome Dance Volunteers

When: Friday - September 10, 2010
Time: 6:30pm to 11:30pm
Location: Cantwell Auditorium on the SMCHS campus
Duties: Supervision of students, set-up prior to the event and clean-up afterwards.
Attire: Casual and comfortable. Please bring warm clothes in case you supervise outdoor areas.

If you would like to donate donuts, milk, orange or apple juice for our upcoming Church bake sale please contact Ms. Rita Morgan or Ms Siobhan O'Neill at (310) 394-3701 x1425 or rmorgan@stmonicahs.net or soneill@stmonicahs.net. Our Church Bake Sale is on Sunday, September 12th and we would need the donations on that day by 8am. Please contact us if you plan to donate so we can accommodate all donations and award the appropriate amount of service hours. If you would like to donate healthy snacks for the Freshman Retreats please contact Ms. Rita Morgan or Ms. Siobhan O'Neill at (310) 394-3701 x1425 or rmorgan@stmonicahs.net or soneill@stmonicahs.net. The Freshman Retreats will be September 21st - 24th. We would need the donations by September 20th. Please contact us if you plan to donate so we accommodate all donations and award the appropriate amount of service hours. If you cannot assist with any of these events but would like to be considered for others, please e-mail Mr. Harold Simpson at candh99@ca.rr.com. You may indicate to Mr. Simpson areas of interest or specific days/times you are available to volunteer.   Mr. Simpson serves on our Parent Associa¬tion and has graciously agreed to assist with parent volunteers.
