Welcome Back!
Welcome back to SMCHS! Hopefully everyone had a relaxing and rejuvenating break and enjoyed their summer reading. Classes are back in full swing, schedules will be finalized and class rosters closed on August 27th, and ABI will begin publishing data on Monday, August 30th. Please keep in mind that each student's grade is based on a percentage system covering a number of different categories. Thus, early in the school year grades may appear "skewed" based on the number of assignments and the categories they fulfill. Please review the course syllabus or the percentage breakdown found in ABI for each subject.
As the new school year begins, so do a number of our school's academic programs. ROCK, our after-school tutoring program, will continue to run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:00pm-4:00pm throughout the school year, and we hope to have the program open to students by Monday, September 13. Students placed on Academic Probation will receive their guidelines and academic support plan towards the middle of September and will meet with their counselors prior to the first academic progress reports (September 21). If students, parents, or teachers feel additional, specific strategies are needed to assist a student further academically, a STEP (Support Team Education Plan) program may be requested by contacting the student's counselor or the Dean of Studies.
Finally, there are a number of key dates concerning academics coming up quickly that the faculty and administration hope to see our parents attending:
August 31: Back to School Night begins at 6:00pm in the Church
September 16: Senior Parent Meeting begins at 7:00pm in the Auditorium
September 29: Freshman Parent Meeting begins at 7:00pm in the Auditorium
